What about the CorePNG codec? [corepng.corecodec.org]

It seems designed for this sort of thing...the only thing is that you'd probably want to use it on the full size (not resized) ASCII image because the anti-aliasing from sizing it down would add a lot to the file size. If you want a smaller size it would be better to use a smaller font to begin with.

Hello Justin,
I took a look at CorePNG. It was an exe so I would have to mess with it later when I can use someone else's computer.
I originally tried to save the frames as PNG instead of JPEG. The problem is that PNG, being lossless, took up more space. I did not have enough hard drive space for all of the frames if they were encoded in PNG. Because of that experience I would expect a PNG encoded video to be much larger than an MPEG-2 encoded video. The purpose of my MPEG-4 tests was to be able to provide a smaller download, not a higher quality one.
I really do appreciate the suggestions. I do not have the full size original images. They were bitmaps. I used ImageMagick's convert to color, resize them to DVD size and format them as JPEG's. Once the JPEG was saved the original bitmap was overwritten by the next frame.

2000th download

On July 29th 2004 00:04:52 UTC, a Time Warner Cable (triad.rr.com) subscriber completed the 2000th copy of The.Matrix-ASCII DVDR.

This has exceeded my expectations 10 fold. While I made the movie for myself, this many downloads has made the effort of setting up the torrent worthwhile. I have decided that 6 months is enough. I am no longer seeding The.Matrix-ASCII.

May your connections never lag and your downloads be error free.

English
I have no idea what it is you are asking for. If you are looking for a specific ASCII image from the movie you can see any frame here.
You will want to scroll down below the first image.

Español
No tengo ninguna idea cuál es usted está pidiendo. Si usted está buscando una imagen específica del ASCII de la película usted puede ver cualquier marco aquí.
Usted deseará enrollar abajo debajo de la primera imagen.

Hi,
Amazing work!
You have the intention to liberate the source code of the program that carried through this codification?
I am studying aalib to try to discover some thing :)

Mail-me if interesting.

Hello Daniel,
When onyx crashed I lost my process page. It was a simple page that basically showed the process of changing one frame from the original movie to ASCII. I just wrote a new page because of your post to this forum. I will see if I can make it nicer later. For now it is in my standard green on back.
